Community Outreach

Dr. Sean C. Matteo was recently voted onto the Board of Directors for The Curry Foundation and the Beaufort County Section of the Make A Wish Foundation.  Dr. Sean C. Matteo and Dr. Holly A. Matteo have also become active again with another wonderful local charity, Hilton Head Heroes, which was founded by Gregg and Lindy Russell, who are very involved in the community:

Our mission at Hilton Head Heroes is to bring families with children between the ages of four and eighteen suffering from life threatening illnesses to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina for a resort vacation. Children are referred to our program through doctors, healthcare providers and hospital administrators. The families are housed in the Hilton Head Island HERO house located in Sea Pines Resort. They are given gift certificates to local restaurants, grocery stores as well as island amenities.

The Curry Foundation is a local 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All Donations are Tax Deductible!

Our mission is to furnish emotional and financial support to individuals or families who have experienced a life-altering tragedy such as a serious or terminal illness or death of a parent or spouse which has created a tremendous financial hardship for the family. The foundation will help these families or individuals get back on their feet by providing financial help to pay living expenses, medical bills and/or assist with lost wages and will help them through their challenging time through support and encouragement. Our focus is on working people that we qualify to be "truly deserving" and "good community people." Every penny of every dollar we get goes directly to our recipients! No member of our foundation receives any compensation. The entire board and all volunteers even pay to attend our own events!

We grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

Matteo Family at the Walk For Wishes Each year the South Carolina chapter grants over 130 wishes and, since the very first wish in 1984, has granted over 2000 wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions. We have never turned down a medically qualified South Carolina child for a wish, a tradition that we proudly carry on year after year.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation® is completely funded from private donations.  Most support comes from individuals, companies, and special events such as golf tournaments and auctions.

Currently there are more than 90 medically qualified children waiting for wishes in South Carolina. Now more than ever we need the help of generous individuals, companies, organization and communities to help us make the wishes of these precious children come true and to share the power of a wish®.
